How do I go about starting my own transcription business?

I am referring to the technical side of it, not the marketing side of it.  How do I go about selecting the correct platform, hiring an IT person, etc..  As a former owner of a service business, the ability to market myself to clients is not the part that concerns me.  I would love to have my own company that I can grow myself instead of working for someone else, even though I am an IC, I loved owning and controlling my own business.

Hello,

No matter what size company your starting, you'll need to securely receive recorded audio files from digital recorders and get the completed transcriptions back to the doctor offices.  You may want to get a dictation server capable of trunking several phone lines and offer an 800 number as well.  Depending on how big you want to get you'll have to purchase computer servers and also provide a workflow management system to ensure timely routing and tracking of transcriptions.   In addition you will want to provide a document management / EMR system to your customers capable of faxing documents.

You can develop these solutions in house or rent these solutions from a TASP or Transcription Application Service Provider, such as http://www.emdat.com/Applications.aspx.

Another great resource is:  www.transcriptiongear.com

I hope this information helps.

Kind regards,
