8/19/2010 1:12:32 PM I currently work from home for a company, and I was wondering what is the best way to become an IC in the city I work for? I was thinking of creating a web page, but where would I post it so offices could see it? Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

One easy way to go about it is - to add yourself as a local business to Google local search. When someone types in "Medical Transcription - My Town, My State" - your local business add with your phone number will be there. Its easy and free.... Just type medical transcription and Lake Forest CA and see what comes up.... it took me a few minutes and the price was right - free...

I think getting your own Website is the best way to advertise. I've gotten more new clients from my Website than from any other source. As far as voice recognition, until they can find a way to perfect it where there are NO ERRORS in words or you don't have to speak super slow and speak every single punctuation mark--COMMA--I don't think voice recognition software will take over yet. Also, as a transcriptionist, in general, you don't need to necessarily specialize in "medical" transcription. There will always be people who need to have something transcribed, whether it's medical or not, and more likely than not, doing general transcription will last a lot longer and be a much better career path than limiting yourself to medical transcription. But as far as promoting yourself, I've found that Yahoo is a good, affordable Web Hosting program. It's VERY EASY to set up and they monitor it for you. All you need to do is plug in your information--your experience, your skills, what you do, your rates, and, most importantly, testimonials! Testimonials are key. Word-of-mouth advertising is the BEST form of advertising you can get because people trust people they know. Start small, get one or two clients, do the BEST work you can with them, make yourself indispensible to them and they, in turn, will refer your services to others. Also, after getting your own Website, you should get some flyers, business cards, or brochures and simply mail them to your target clients. Are you trying to do legal transcription? Find the law firms in your area or within a 100-mile radius, do some research, and send them a brochure of your services. A local business or search engine is also a GREAT way to advertise. That way, when somebody types in "transcriptionist" and your city or state, you'll be at the top of the list, or your Website will be at the top of the list. I'm not much of a blogger, but you could start a blog and then refer someone to your Website for services. Be careful about this, though. If you start right off the bat trying to get people to go to a particular site, you look like you're looking for business. You want to blog about interesting topics, first, post a few blogs that are strictly informational before you hit them up to visit your Website or use your services. Be sure, also, to get on the social networking sites and, if you can afford, it you might want to place an ad on Facebook or Twitter or MySpace or something like that. Good luck! |

| Yvonne Honditch You can send business cards to the local docs. However, by 2015 there will be NO MORE MED TRANSCRIPTIONISTS. Everything is going voice recognition. I would start learning a new profession like medical billing /coding etc. The Govt is requiring everything to be up and running by 2015 or the physicians etc. will be paid less by Medicare for patient care, much less than they are being paid now. There should be an article in your local paper today regarding this. Become super computer literate i Sunday, August 22, 2010 | ||
