It looks like front end speech recognition will not replace medical transcription but will change the ways things are done and there will be more SR editing in the Medical Transcription field. |

| Pam Truog No, not at all. Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Diane Geil No way, too many different accents to decipher Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Kelley Uyeda No, definitely not. If volume is too high, dictation has to be read at a fast pace which speech recognition cannot capture very accurately. Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Victor Mata NEVER! Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Cheryl Henderson I certainly hope not, at least until I am older and unable to do it any longer. Been transcribing for 30+ years. Still need to work at least another 10 to 15. Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Deborah Arrowood No WAY!!! Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||

| Diana Olson I don`t think voice rec. alone will replace transcriptionists, however, there are so many other programs out there that hospitals and doctors are utilizing like Quick notes, Medscribe, etc. and that is what will replace us unfortunately, especially since the younger generation is so computer/tech friendly and everyone wants instant gratification and they want their answers put in writing immediately. I think doctors will be forced to do their own notes in some form so that they are present on a Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Arlene Way Right now I work with voice recognition software so in essence, I am a proofreader instead of transcriber. Occasionally I still type - new doctors start and are unrecognized until a set amount of hour have been through the system. Some of ours are still not recognized and have been removed from the reognition system because the computer cannot figure out what they are saying and probably never will! Even the recognized ones I proofread are never without errors. Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Judith Barnes I have been doing some Train the Trainer for medical transcriptionists to teach them how to support EMR and Dragon. I have been thinking of putting on some seminars around the USA for transcriptionists to do this, too. Do you think people would come? Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Sheila Ballard Judith: Yes. How about Houston, Texas area? Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Renee Cole what is that Judith? I have been using computer software that downloads the voice files to me for over 5 years, LOVE my job, the docs are great and totally dislike VR so I thought I had it made - tho didnt take it for granted - and I was even able to keep my job when I moved across the country! However they just got a system to switch all the office records, etc. to [I dont know what it is called but connects all records nationally I think] and it includes some type of VR transcription program. | Sheila Ballard Renee: Me 2 girl. New technology is good but will never replace the MTs. We make their dictation look good!! Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
| Robin York The program I have been using for my part time job does not pick up even the American docs well.... I think I would rather type but then I have been doing this for so long it is kind of nice to just listen and correct for a change lol.... Thursday, September 23, 2010 | ||
